A December 2022 review by Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal has found the National Single Window System (NSWS) portal was gaining traction, and that 48,000 approvals were granted since its soft launch the previous year, in 2021.
The portal, created by the Department for Promotion of Industries and Internal Trade in September 2021 under the aegis of the Commerce and Industries Ministry, was envisioned to act as a single platform to grant clearances for those wanting to establish businesses in India.
Investors and businesses can now apply for 248 government-to-business clearances through the NSWS, and seek approvals from 26 central ministries and 16 other states and union territories.
The portal was seen to have significantly reduced the compliance burden and gestation period of projects, and to have supported business growth.
