In a proud moment for India’s Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) community, the ITS India Forum has been elected as a Board Member of the prestigious 12-country ITS Asia Pacific Forum (the leading forum dedicated to exploring and advancing Intelligent Transport Systems in the Asia Pacific region), marking a landmark milestone in India’s intelligent transportation journey. This development links India’s vast mobility ecosystem with the Asia-Pacific’s premier intelligent transport community.
This is not just an honour for ITS India, but for the entire Indian transport and infrastructure community. With India’s rapidly expanding road network and emerging intelligent mobility solutions, our presence on the ITS Asia Pacific Board signals that India is ready to lead the global conversation on smart, safe, and sustainable transport systems.
Akhilesh Srivastava
President of the ITS India Forum
Recognised for its dynamic contributions and transformative initiatives over the past year, the ITS India Forum’s inclusion on the board is a testament to the rapid strides the country has made in intelligent transport, traffic management, and sustainable mobility solutions.
With India’s status as the second-largest road network globally and the third-biggest automobile industry, third-largest manufacturer of trucks and second-largest manufacturer of buses, the Indian ITS ecosystem is poised to become one of the most influential in the Asia-Pacific landscape. The new partnership is poised to accelerate the country’s transport innovation by exposing it to global best practices and collaborative opportunities at an unprecedented scale. Also, India currently holds the title of having the highest number of road accident fatalities worldwide.
This strategic alliance marks a pivotal step toward accelerating advanced Intelligent Transport System (ITS) deployments across India — from smart traffic management in urban centres to seamless digital tolling and integrated highway networks. It ensures that India’s mobility transformation is enriched by global expertise and proven international practices.
With a unified commitment to fostering smart, sustainable, and inclusive transportation solutions, India is poised to fast-track its transition to next-generation mobility infrastructure. This evolution promises enhanced safety, efficiency, and convenience for millions of commuters, while setting new benchmarks in the intelligent mobility space.
On this occasion, the ITS India Forum proudly announced plans to lead a high-level Indian delegation of experts, industry leaders, and government officials to the prestigious ITS World Congress, scheduled in Atlanta, USA, from 24–28 August 2025. The delegation will showcase India’s innovations and ambitions through a specially curated ITS India Pavilion, offering a platform for international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
This board membership is set to unlock opportunities for pioneering tech pilots, foster global best practice exchanges, and catalyse new partnerships, technology collaborations, and policy dialogues — all crucial to advancing India’s vision of modernising its mobility infrastructure and integrating intelligent systems across public transport, highways, and logistics.
